The police have arrested five persons for possessing illegal weapons in the past 48 hours in the district. Five countrymade revolvers and a live cartridge have been seized.

A police spokesperson said the accused, identified as Kumarsen, Salim, Saqir, Prince and Ganga Prasad, had been arrested. Kumarsen was arrested on the Surajkund road, Salim and Ganga were caught in Sector 46 and NIT-3 here, respectively. The police arrested Saqir in Fatehpur Taga village and Prince in Tigaon. While Kumar had procured the weapon from Mathura at a cost of Rs 2,000, Salim and Saqir got the weapons by paying Rs 3,500 and Rs 4,500, respectively, from unidentified persons at Delhi and Rajasthan’s Alwar district. The source of supply of the weapon in the fourth and fifth case is yet to be ascertained, though they are reported to have paid an amount ranging between Rs 4,000 and Rs 5,000. All five accused have been remanded in judicial custody following initial interrogation.
