Kurukshetra Additional Superintendent of Police Prateek Gahlot said, “On November 15, Rambir Sharma had suffered a bullet injury and he died on November 18 while undergoing treatment at PGI Chandigarh. A special investigating team under CIA-2 unit was formed, and during the investigation, Jai Kumar, a resident of Hathira, was arrested in connection with the case on November 28, and on the same day three accused who were involved in the firing were spotted by the CIA-II unit in Jirbari village.”

He added, “They were apprehended after a brief exchange of fire in Kurukshetra. The accused were identified as Sahil, Nitin and Anmol, residents of Kurukshetra. Sahil and Nitin had suffered bullet injuries in their legs in the exchange of fire, and they were rushed to Lok Nayak Jai Parkash District Civil Hospital for treatment, and they have been arrested after treatment. Anmol was arrested from the spot. Two country-made weapons and two live cartridges were recovered from their possession.”

The ASP stated that the main conspirator, Vishal—currently residing in America—had longstanding enmity with Rambir’s family. Vishal allegedly hired the accused to kill Rambir. While Nitin has two criminal cases registered against him, Sahil has six. Police also revealed that the three men arrested after the encounter were planning to commit another murder in Karnal. The two-wheeler used in the murder of Rambir Sharma was stolen from Delhi, and Sahil had procured it from there.

Meanwhile, CIA-2 in-charge Mohan Lal said, “Three accused, including Krishan, Chetan and Jai Kumar, were also arrested in connection with the case. While Krishan and Chetan were involved in recce and assisting the shooters after the crime, Jai Kumar was the person with whom Rambir had an old dispute related to an assault case in which Jai Kumar was accused and their case is pending in the High Court. Jai Kumar is the father of Vishal. Jai Kumar and Vishal were pressurising Rambir for a compromise but Rambir was not ready, following which they decided to eliminate him.”
