Four days after the breach in Sunder branch canal near Bhawar village, another incident of breach in Butana branch canal near Gangana village was reported in Sonepat district today.

A 60-foot breach in the Butana branch canal between Gangana and Rana Kheri village in Gohana area occurred in the morning.

According to information, the Butana branch canal from Anta head in Jind district was flowing at a capacity of 4,100 cusecs on Thursday. The villagers witnessed water leakage at around 10.30 am and immediately informed the Irrigation Department about it.

But before the officials reached the spot, the breach had become around 60 feet and the water started flowing speedily and the crops in around 50 acres were submerged.

After getting information, Gohana SDM Vivek Arya along with officials of the Irrigation Department reached the spot and took stock of the situation. The officials stopped the water from Anta head and after the canal water pressure lowered, the breach was plugged with sand bags. After plugging the breach, the officials started repairing the canal bank.

Baroda MLA Induraj Narwal also reached the spot. He demanded a compensation of Rs 80,000 per acre for the farmers due to the canal breach in Bhawar and Gangana village.

The SDM said an inquiry has been ordered.
