The police seized 600 bags of subsidised agriculture grade urea from a truck near Maharaja Agrasain Chowk in Jagadhri. The urea was reportedly brought here from Sarsawa town of Uttar Pradesh.

According to information, the CM flying squad checked a truck loaded with 600 bags of urea. On the complaint of Sub-Inspector Imtiaz Ali of Gandhi Nagar police post, a case was registered against truck driver Ashiq of Chandpur Colony, Yamuanagar; his accomplice Mohsin of Toderpur village (Yamunanagar district) and some unknown persons on April 27.

Aditya Pratap Dabas, Deputy Director of Agriculture, Yamunanagar, said as per bills (tax invoices) issued by a Sarsawa-based firm, the consignment of 600 bags of subsidised urea was to be supplied to three fertiliser dealers of Yamunanagar district (two Jagadhri-based dealers and one Buria-based dealer).

He, however, said the dealers of the firms had submitted affidavits that they had nothing to do with the urea consignment. “This consignment of urea was supplied from Uttar Pradesh, but as per rules, no agriculture grade urea can be supplied to a retailer from one state to another,” said Dabas.

He said the urea had been manufactured by KRIBHCO (Krishak Bharati Cooperative Limited) and it could be sold only to farmers through cooperative societies.

“We submitted a report to the district police on April 28 for action,” he said.
