The Congress MLA from Adampur, Chander Prakash, expressed surprise that although the foundation stone for Government College in Balsamand village was laid by former Chief Minister Mahohar Lal Khattar in 2018, the college has been operating from a primary school.

The MLA said this inadequate and makeshift arrangement was adversely affecting the quality of education. “The college started with 500 students, but due to the lack of infrastructure and staff, enrollment has dropped to 200 students, mostly girls,” he added.

While the panchayat had already allotted land for the college, no concrete steps had been taken by the government to begin construction, said the MLA. He also expressed concern over the dilapidated condition of primary school building from where the college currently operates. He said there was an urgent need to construct new buildings for the college and primary school.

After inspecting Balsamand grain market, the MLA said the mandi had been neglected all these years and needs proper maintenance.

“Basic facilities are missing here. A sub-yard must be constructed and arrangements should be made for the procurement of moong and millet crops at this market,” he said. During his visit to the primary health centre, he expressed dissatisfaction with healthcare facilities and pointed out the lack of ambulance services and night staff. “There are no adequate medical facilities available. I even raised these concerns in the Assembly, but the government is yet to act,” he said.

The Congress MLA also expressed concerns over waterlogging still prevailing in many villages. “Thousands of acres of crops have been destroyed due to heavy rains and overflowing drains. The water has still not receded, making further sowing impossible,” he said.

The MLA demanded that the government provide compensation of at least Rs one lakh per acre to farmers whose crops were damaged. He also highlighted that many houses had been affected and the condition of livestock was deteriorating. He urged the government to provide immediate financial assistance to the affected villagers.

Later, the MLA held a public hearing at the Jat Dharamshala in Balsamand and addressed several issues on the spot.
