74th annual athletics meet held at Dyal Singh College

Dyal Singh College, Karnal, held its 74th annual athletics meet on Friday.

In the 400-m boys’ race, Himanshu Sharma stood first, while Jayant stood second and Yash Kamboj third.

In the 200-m girls’ race, Neeru clinched the first position, while Jyoti and Kajal secured second and third positions, respectively.

In the javelin throw (boys’) event, Repander, Pranjal and Sachin stood first, second and third, respectively.

In the Javelin throw (girls’) event, Neeru stood first, Priyanshu second and Diksha Kumara third.

In the high jump (boys’) event, Pranjal stood first, Aaras second and Kushagar third. In the 800-m (boys’) race, Himanshu, Jayant Kumar and Vishal stood first, second and third, respectively.

In the 400-m (girls’) race, Neeru, Jyoti and Anu stood first, second and third, respectively. In the discus throw (boys’) event, Ishawr clinched the first position, while Vinay stood second and Pranshul third.

In the shot-put (boys’) event, Hitesh Kamboj, Pranshul, and Vishal stood first, second and third, respectively.

In the boys’ 110-m hurdle race, Himanshu Sharma bagged the first position, Khushagra the second and Subham the third.

Karnal MLA Jagmohan Anand, an alumnus of the college and the chief guest of the event, said he felt very happy to come back to his college and recall his student days. While addressing students, he said, “Games truly teach us to fight the difficulties of life.”

Education improved the intellectual development of humans but physical and mental development happened only through sports, he added. He said sports were beyond losing or winning.

Life was a game, and it was important to play it, he added.

Principal Dr Ashima Gakhar welcomed the chief guest and other dignitaries.

She emphasised the importance of sports.

“Sports teach us discipline and team spirit,” she said.

Dr Gakhar, while congratulating the sports committee for organising the athletic meet, said they had put in a lot of effort to motivate and prepare the students to participate in various competitions. She gave the students her best wishes for the competition.
