A team of CIA-II of Yamunanagar police has arrested eight persons for allegedly looting 120 bags of subsidised agriculture-grade urea kept in a sealed godown in Tajakpur village of Yamunanagar district.

The accused have been identified as Nafish alias Sonu of Todarpur village, Mashoom of Tigra village, Shahid alias Sahil of Tigra village, Ashique of Tigra village, Shoaib of Akalgarh village, Kurbaan of Kot Basawa Singh village, Munaver of Kot Basawa Singh village and Kurbaan of Kot Basawa Singh village.

They were today produced before a district court in Jagadhri which sent them to one-day police custody.

According to the information available, the Haryana Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department, Yamunanagar, had found 2,461 bags of subsidised agriculture-grade urea kept at an unauthorised godown in Tajakpur village on May 8.

After seizing the urea bags and sealing the illegal godown, the Agriculture Department handed over the possession of this godown to the police for security of the seized urea bags.

Superintendent of Police Surinder Singh Bhoria said that a Home Guards jawan and a private security guard were deputed at the godown.

He said that 14-15 miscreants armed with country made illegal pistols, axes and sticks entered the godown on the intervening night of May 19 and 20.

The miscreants looted 120 bags of subsidised urea and took those away in a tractor-trolley and a utility vehicle.

He added that an FIR was registered against unidentified persons at Sadar police station, Yamunanagar, in connection with this case. A team led by Raj Kumar, incharge of CIA-II, arrested eight persons in connection with this case. Bhoria said that more persons involved in this case had been identified and they would be arrested soon. A country made illegal pistol, a live cartridge and the tractor-trolley used to transport the stolen urea were seized from the accused.

“The main accused in this case are Nafish alias Sonu and Bilaal, both residents of Todarpur village and Mustafa of Jatanwala village. Nafish has been arrested and Bilaal and Mustafa will be arrested soon,” said SP Surinder Singh Bhoria.
