The announcement was made by Energy Minister Anil Vij following a high-level meeting at Shram Shakti Bhawan, New Delhi, chaired by Union Power Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.
“Haryana will establish new 800 MW ultra-supercritical thermal units in Panipat and Hisar. Once operational, these projects will significantly enhance the state’s electricity availability and meet the growing energy demand,” Vij said.
The meeting, attended by senior officials from the Union Ministry of Power and the Haryana Energy Department, focused on addressing Haryana’s rising power demand. Vij also underscored Haryana’s economic role, saying, “As a major contributor to the national GDP, Haryana looks forward to full support and assistance from the Government of India to strengthen its energy sector.”
In response, Union Power Minister Khattar assured that the Centre would extend all possible assistance under government policies and schemes. He also directed officers to expedite clearances, particularly coal linkage, to fast-track the Haryana Power Generation Corporation Limited (HPGCL) projects.
The meeting further reviewed challenges around the limited availability of quality biomass pellets. Khattar instructed the Ministry of Power to work on suitable solutions.
Smart meter implementation was another key agenda item. Officials discussed both TOTEX and CAPEX models, with the Union Ministry advising Haryana to study the TOTEX model used in Rajasthan to ensure swift rollout. Both ministers emphasised that consumer data security must remain the top priority in deployment.
