82k outdated vehicles to be de-registered in Jhajjar
The district administration has initiated the process to de-register commercial and personal vehicles whose owners have not taken a no-objection certificate (NoC) from the authorities after the expiry of the validity of registration.
As per the Supreme Court’s order, diesel vehicles older than 10 years and petrol variants older than 15 years are not allowed to ply in the National Capital Region (NCR) in order to check air pollution.
Jhajjar is also a part of the NCR, said a district official on anonymity. "At present, the district has 82,818 such vehicles, including 27,626 diesel, whose registration validity has expired. However, it is yet to be determined how many of these vehicles are operational,” he said.
As per information, the district has 20,624 such commercial vehicles. Among these, 14,920 are diesel vehicles and are registered with the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) at Bahadurgarh.
As many as 6,943 diesel vehicles older than 10 years are registered with the Jhajjar authorities; 5,129 at Bahadurgarh, 625 at Beri and nine at Badli. As far as outdated petrol vehicles are concerned, 24,394 are registered at Jhajjar, 23,966 at Bahadurgarh, 1,112 at Beri and 16 at Badli.
SDM Ravinder Yadav told The Tribune that a campaign against outdated vehicles was being carried out in the district. “Over 100 such vehicles have so far been impounded and the process to de-register them is under way. As per norms, diesel vehicles are valid to ply for 10 years and petrol vehicles for 15 years in the NCR. After expiry of the validity period, the vehicle owner is bound to get an NoC from the authorities concerned within 15 days if he/she wants to register the vehicle with authorities outside the NCR,” he said.
“The vehicles are de-registered if the owners do not apply for NoC, so we have started issuing notices to them,” he added.
