Following the transfer of Rohtak SP Narendra Bijarniya, INLD national president Abhay Singh Chautala said that Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini should send Haryana Director General of Police (DGP) on leave with immediate effect to facilitate an impartial inquiry into the suicide of senior IPS officer Y Puran Kumar.

Kumar, who was posted as IGP at Police Training Centre, Sunaria village, shot himself dead at his residence in Chandigarh five days ago.

“An impartial investigation cannot be ensured as long as the DGP continues in his post. There are established protocols for investigations. How can an officer of lower rank fairly investigate someone at a higher post? The DGP must be sent on leave immediately to ensure fair inquiry. The state government should also ensure justice to the bereaved family, without shielding anyone,” said Abhay while talking to media persons in Jhajjar on Saturday.

Chautala also criticised the BJP government, stating it was unfortunate that even after five days the authorities had neither identified the root cause of the case nor taken any concrete decision. He demanded that the government take immediate action against all officials named in Kumar’s final note.

In reply to a question, Abhay said the growing popularity of INLD in the state has left opposition leaders anxious and frustrated, so cheap tactics are being adopted by leaders of opposite parties to tarnish his image.

He claimed that a doctored video, containing a comment related to the suicide case of the IPS officer, was being circulated on social media to defame him.

Reiterating his party’s support to the officer’s family, Abhay said, “Once again, I want to assure the bereaved family that INLD stands firmly with them and is prepared to fight every battle to ensure justice for the officer.”

He added that a delegation from INLD also visited late Y Puran Kumar’s residence yesterday to offer condolences and pay tribute on behalf of the party. “A condolence message from my side was also delivered to the bereaved family through a letter, assuring them of our full support in this time of grief,” Abhay added.
