The case dates back to October 24, 2024, when the ACB, acting on a complaint by Aman, a petrol pump owner from Litani village, conducted a raid in Sector 1-4 and arrested Richhpal while accepting a bribe of Rs 5.80 lakh. Richhpal was acting as a middleman in the extortion case.

As per the complaint, Aman was forcibly taken in a government vehicle and threatened with false criminal charges if he failed to pay up. Soon after, Richhpal, a resident of Litani village, approached him as an intermediary and claimed that he had “settled” the matter with the police officers for a total of Rs 17.50 lakh.

The ACB caught Richhpal red-handed while accepting Rs 5.80 lakh who named several others, leading to the arrest of Inspector Kapil Sihag and two others.
