In a crackdown on illegal mining and illegal transportation of mined minerals, the district administration conducted a checking drive on Saturday night.

Deputy Commissioner Parth Gupta said as per the instructions of the Haryana Government, the Mining Department, along with other departments, was taking action against people involved in illegal mining activities. A number of teams had been formed at different levels to stop the illegal activity, he said.

The DC informed that various teams checked a total of 2,404 vehicles last night and nine vehicles were challaned for illegally transporting mined material. While 1,406 vehicles were checked by teams led by the Chhachhrauli SDM, 319 vehicles were checked by the teams under the Jagadhri SDM. Similarly, teams under the Radaur SDM checked 518 vehicles and issued challans to nine. As many as 161 vehicles were checked by the teams under the SDM of Vyaspur (Bilaspur).

All SDMs, along with officials of the police and mining departments, checked vehicles to stop illegal mining in areas near Yamuna river and other places, the DC said.
