Karnal, December 23

Aiming at providing shelters to homeless people in chilling nights, 11 shelter homes have been set up in the district, including five in the city and one each in Gharaunda, Indri, Assandh, Nissing, Nilokheri and Tararoi towns.

Keeping in mind the severe cold, we have established 11 shelter homes in the district. All are functional now. Directions have been given to ensure the facility of food and tea for those visiting the shelter. These will remain open round the clock. — Nishant Kumar Yadav, Deputy Commissioner

All these will have all facilities for the stay of 150 persons. Besides, HCS officers have been assigned the duty to ensure than no homeless person sleeps in the open on footpaths and other public places in the nights.

“Keeping in mind the severe cold, we have established 11 shelter homes in the district. All are functional now,” said Nishant Kumar Yadav, Deputy Commissioner.

“All SDMs, HCS officers along with other officials will be on the job from 8 pm onward to ensure that nobody sleeps in the open,” he added.

They will make rounds in the city and towns at different places daily to ensure they sleep in shelter homes, the DC maintained. “Directions have been given to ensure the facility of food and tea for such people,” he added.

These will remain open round the clock and employees will be there to assist homeless people so that they can stay easily here. He maintained that several NGOs have also extended support for the smooth running of these homes by providing different materials.

“We have also deployed a team of doctors to check the health of people staying there,” he added.

One shelter home is functional below the flyovevr of Railway road, on Kaithal road, in Sector 12, near the Power Corporation office and one near the KCGMC gate, he added.
