After Oppn, now Haryana BJP MP flags shortage of urea
After the Opposition raised the issue of shortage of fertilisers in Haryana, BJP's Rajya Sabha MP Kiran Choudhry has raised the issue of a shortage of urea in Bhiwani district.
Addressing a letter to Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, dated January 25, Choudhry pointed out that farmers in her home district had been suffering for the shortage of urea. She said as per available information, 1,066 MT less urea had been provided to Bhiwani against the demand.
"It is a critical situation for farmers, as Bhiwani district is one of the prominent agriculture districts of Haryana. For agriculture productivity, the adequate requirement of urea is a must. The shortage of fertilisers could impact overall productivity, leading to a decline in farmers' income. This situation is not only critical for farmers, but also a challenge for the country's food requirement and economy,” she said.
Armed with figures, she said more urea was provided in Yamunanagar, Jind, Sirsa, Sonepat and Fatehabad than the actual demand. "Had fertilizers been distributed rationally across the districts, such a situation wouldn't have arisen,” she complained.
"We hope that your government will take up this problem seriously and provide a solution soon. Your positive intervention would provide farmers of Bhiwani district with relief and their agriculture production would continue smoothly,” Choudhry wrote to Chouhan.
In another letter to Virendra Kumar, Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, dated January 24, she complained, "Currently, a large quantity of solid waste is being indiscriminately dumped in and around Bhiwani without adequate treatment or scientific management. This has led to the proliferation of harmful pollutants that not only degrade the environment but also pose serious risks to public health. Moreover, the seepage from the unmanaged waste is contaminating groundwater, a crucial resource for the residents of Bhiwani and nearby areas. Considering the gravity of the situation, I humbly request the Central Government to initiate a comprehensive solid waste management project in Bhiwani."
