Repair work on pothole-ridden roads in Sirsa has started, with the Public Works Department (Buildings and Roads) beginning patchwork on Barnala Road near Lal Batti Chowk on Friday afternoon.

The move follows repeated complaints from residents and social workers about the poor condition of roads, especially after recent heavy rainfall. The potholes had become a daily hazard for commuters, causing frequent accidents.

Resident Amit Soni said several complaints were made to the district administration regarding the rising number of road accidents due to potholes. “After growing public pressure, the PWD has finally started laying a tar premix to fill the damaged areas. Now the real concern is how long this repair will last,” he added.

Soni also pointed out that while the PWD had begun work on a few major roads, the Municipal Council of Sirsa is yet to carry out proper repair work across most city roads. “In some areas, they have just dumped debris into potholes as a temporary fix. Without permanent repairs, the accidents will continue to take place,” he said.

A PWD official said road repairs were typically undertaken after the monsoon ended and assured that all damaged city roads would be fixed soon.
