The Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department has increased strictness against those farmers who burn stubble in their fields.

The department has marked a ‘red entry’ in the land records of four farmers of Yamunanagar district on ‘Meri Fasal, Mera Byora’ portal as they were allegedly found involved in stubble burning.

Now, those farmers shall not be able to sell their crops in grain markets on minimum support price (MSP).

According to the information available, four cases of stubble burning have so far been detected in Yamunanagar district in the current paddy crop season.

The authorities of the Agriculture Department have lodged FIRs against those farmers in connection with the four stubble burning cases.

Besides, a fine of Rs 15,000 has been imposed in all four stubble-burning cases.

As many as 33 FIRs had been registered against farmers for stubble burning last year. A fine of Rs 57,500 was also collected from 21 farmers and red entry had been marked in the land records of 40 farmers last year on ‘Meri Fasal, Mera Byora’ portal.

With the start of sowing of the wheat crop, the Agriculture Department has increased strictness to stop stubble-burning cases in the district.

Besides teams of officials of the district administration, village-level committees are also keeping an eye on stubble burning cases in their areas.

Aditya Pratap Dabas, Deputy Director Agriculture, Yamunanagar, confirmed that a red entry had been marked in the records of four farmers.

He urged farmers to manage paddy residue mechanically instead of burning it.
