Ahead of Nuh yatra, Congress MLA’s lawyer booked for ‘instigating’ Facebook post

Out to ensure peace during the forthcoming Jalabhishek Yatra on July 22, the Nuh police have launched a crackdown on inflammatory posts on social media.

The cyber police has registered a case against senior advocate Tahir Hussain Deola for posting objectionable and instigating posts regarding the yatra. Deola is representing many accused of the last year Nuh riots, primarily Meo Muslims. He is also part of the legal team representing Congress MLA Mamman Khan who has been booked under the UAPA for instigating mob violence during the yatra last year.

Being targeted

Advocate Tahir Hussain Deola said he was being witch- hunted for a playful comment he made to a colleague regarding the state politics.

According to the police, they have taken cognisance of the comments posted by the advocate on Facebook and registered a case. The FIR states that different people commented on the post made on July 14 from the Facebook ID Tahir Deola. Responding to one, Deola issued a threat of “eliminating the existence of a few” during the yatra.

The cyber police station has registered a case in this regard under Sections 192, 196, 299, 352 and 353 of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita. However, no arrest has been made in this case

so far. Deola said he was being witch hunted for a playful comment he made to a colleague regarding the state politics.

The bar association of Nuh has called meeting to review the case and decide on further action.

“People have to be cautious of what they post on social media. We want yatra to be peaceful and are keeping a strong tab on all social media handles. Nobody who tries to ignite any hatred or instigate or hurt sentiments will be spared. We expect the well-aware educated lot of the district to lead others with their example. This is not a joke and people should be cautious,” said ACP Sonakshi Singh.

Last year, a war on social media between cow vigilantes and Meo youngsters led to riots in the district, claiming seven lives. The right wing outfits are holding this yatra yet again and have issued strict directives to all to abstain from posting anything controversial on social media.
