Al Falah electrician, house owner’s brother held in Umar shelter case

The investigation into the Delhi bomb blast and the Faridabad-based white-collar terror module has once again shifted focus to Nuh, where security agencies have detained two men for questioning — an electrician employed at Al Falah University and the brother of the woman who owned the house where terrorist Dr Umar allegedly hid for nearly 10 days.

Security has been tightened in Hidayat Colony, with police deployment increased and barricades erected around the street where Umar had stayed. A bomb disposal squad also searched the premises but found nothing suspicious. “No suspiciousness was found during the investigation,” a senior police officer said.

Meanwhile, three doctors and a fertiliser and seed seller — who were earlier picked up for questioning — were released after investigators found no evidence linking them to the case.

According to the investigation, Umar had been living in a rented house in Hidayat Colony for about 10 days. The house is reportedly owned by Afsana, who is currently absconding. Police have prepared a list of all residents in the lane and completed their verification. Nuh SP Rajesh Kumar also visited the spot on Sunday to review the situation.

The detained individuals have been identified as Shoyeb, an electrician at Al Falah University, and Rizwan, the brother of house owner Afsana. Investigators suspect both may have played a role in arranging the accommodation for Umar. Agencies are probing whether the two were aware of Umar’s identity or his links to the terror network. It is also learnt that Shoyeb is Afsana’s brother-in-law.

The three doctors — Rizwan, Mohammad and Mustaqeem — and fertiliser seller Dinesh Singla alias Dabbu were released after questioning.

Investigating agencies have seized CCTV footage and DVRs from nearby nursing homes and surrounding areas. A technical analysis of the data is under way to track Umar’s movements and identify individuals he may have interacted with. Officials believe the footage could offer crucial leads.

A senior Nuh police officer said, “We are not investigating the matter. We helped the investigating agencies whenever they required it. The investigating agencies have visited various areas in Nuh district for investigation but we have nothing to say on the matter.”
