Ambala Cantt gets sewage treatment plant

In order to prevent the release of harmful pollutants into the environment and reduce the risk of waterborne diseases in Ambala Cantonment, Haryana Cabinet Minister Anil Vij today inaugurated a sewage treatment plant (STP) constructed at a cost of Rs 15 crore at Babyal in Ambala Cantonment.

Addressing a gathering on the occasion, the Cabinet Minister said this plant was connected to about 140-km-long sewage line passing through several colonies and provide facility to about 15,000 households. The plant has been designed and constructed with latest sequencing batch reactor technology, according to the requirements of next 25 years. The treated water will be released in Tangri.

He said besides Sector A, B, C and D of Defence Colony, Tundla Mandi, and Kalareheri, the STP will be beneficial for the Defence enclave, Boh, Anand Nagar, Dalipgarh, Babyal, Krishna Nagar, Shyam Nagar, Arjun Nagar, and other nearby colonies.

The minister said a 370-km sewage line was being laid at a cost of Rs 341 crore from Kalareheri to Machonda. Residents in the areas where the sewage line has been laid must get their connections. The project will provide a relief to the people from dirty water.

Vij said to improve the sanitation conditions of Ambala Cantonment, four STPs had been approved. While the STP at Babyal has been made operational, the STPs at 12 Cross Roads, Machonda and Khudda village will be made operational in future.

Addressing the gathering, Vij said: “Development work in Ambala Cantonment is ongoing around the clock to ensure the city is equipped with all necessary facilities. Overhead 33kV power lines in areas such as Mahesh Nagar and Babyal have been relocated, significantly improving safety and convenience. An additional Rs 38 crore is being invested to further strengthen Ambala Cantonment’s power infrastructure. Local buses have been reintroduced in Ambala Cantonment after 25 years. Initially, five air-conditioned electric buses were launched and now five more have been added."

He reiterated his commitment to making all local buses air-conditioned. He also announced plans for a cleanliness drive after the monsoon, in collaboration with local councillors and citizens.
