Ambala police launch ‘Maidan’ campaign against drug abuse

To tackle the menace of drug addiction, the Ambala range of the Haryana Police have initiated a campaign "Maidan" (Mission against drugs and narcotics). Under this campaign, special teams in Ambala range (Ambala, Kurukshetra and Yamunanagar districts) have been formed to visit drug-affected villages and conduct a door-to-door survey in collaboration with gram panchayats, local residents and social organisations. The teams will obtain information about people involved in narcotic smuggling and drug addicts.

Local NGOs, doctors and motivators will be involved to strengthen

de-addiction efforts. Individuals, who have given up drugs, will be involved in the campaign as brand ambassadors so that they can share their experiences and inspire others.

As per spokesman of the Police Department, Pankaj Nain, IG, Ambala Range, held a meeting with members and nodal officers of teams formed for Maidan, to chalk out a strategy regarding the campaign. Directions were issued to teams to take action against people involved in drug smuggling.

As part of the campaign, people hooked to drugs would be identified and be helped shun the habit. Besides, people would be made aware of ill effects of drug addiction.

Youngsters would be involved in sports and cultural activities and other measures would be taken to create a drug-free society.

The spokesman said regular meetings would be held and feedback taken to evaluate the progress of the campaign and make changes as per the requirement to make the drive a success.

Pankaj Nain informed that teams had been briefed and provided the required information so that they could identify drug-affected persons and provide them assistance.

He said, “Local NGOs, doctors and motivators will be involved to strengthen de-addiction efforts. Individuals, who have given up drugs, will be involved in the campaign as brand ambassadors so that they can share their experiences and inspire others.”

"Together, we can build a healthy and safe society. During the campaign, an appeal will be made to the people to cooperate with the Police Department in tightening the noose around drug smugglers. People from all sections of society will be called upon to support the de-addiction campaign - Maidan - and work towards a better future of the state," the IG said.
