A member of the village panchayat spotted the statue at Ambedkar Bhawan in Hayatpur village without a hand and a head, and told the sarpanch, Narendra Singh, police said. The village head called a panchayat over the incident and informed the police.

Meanwhile, the Bhim Sena also joined the protest.

Police said they had filed an FIR under sections 295A (malicious intention of outraging the religious feelings) and 427 (causing damage) of the Indian Penal Code and section 3 of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes Atrocities (Prevention) Act.

“We’re trying to identify and track down the people behind the vandalism. Meanwhile, a new statue will be installed soon at the same palace,” said Inspector Sunil Kumar, Station House Office of Sector 10 A police station, where the FIR was registered.
