Arhtiyas of the state, under the banner of Haryana State Anajmandi Arhtiyas Association, have announced that they would vote against the BJP in the upcoming Assembly elections. They have extended support to the Congress.
This was decided during a state-level meeting of the association, chaired by its president Ashok Gupta, which was held in Karnal today. The association announced that its representatives would to go to Delhi to extend support to the Congress after a meeting with former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Saturday.
The association called upon the presidents and office-bearers of all arhtiya associations of the state to lend support to them in opposing the BJP and voting for the Congress in the upcoming Assembly elections.
Gupta along with other office-bearers, including chairman of the association Rajnish Chaudhary, expressed their dissatisfaction with the ruling party.
“We have been requesting the government to address our issues, but it has not given any heed to us, forcing us to take this decision. We will not support the BJP and will go with the Congress,” said Gupta, adding that they would actively campaign against the saffron party.
They have been demanding that all crops should be procured through arhtiyas along with commission. “We have been asking the government to transfer payments to farmers as per their will, procure crops of farmers from nearby states, complete commission from the Food Corporation of India (FCI),” said Gupta.
Chaudhary said they had been raising these issues after every six months, but the BJP had not addressed any demand. “The government has ignored our demands and instead introduced new policies and laws such as e-trading, which is causing difficulties to both arhtiyas and farmers,” he said.
