To register their protest against the I-T raids on arhtiyas in Punjab, arhtiyas of Karnal district kept their mandis closed today.

They claimed that these raids were conducted to force the arhtiyas to withdraw support to the farmers’ agitation.

“We are with the farmers and will continue to support them. These raids are an act of revenge, which will not be tolerated,” said Rajnish Chaudhary, president, Karnal Arhtiyas Association. He said the government should accept the demands of farmers instead of harassing arhtiyas. Rajesh Arora, another agent, said the government had been using all methods to break the farmers’ agitation and raids on the premises of arhtiyas in Punjab were a part of that. — TNS
