A unit comprising 80 personnel of the 22 Mechanised Infantry of the Army has been deployed in Bahadurgarh town here to assist with the ongoing relief and repair operations after a major breach in the Mungeshpur drain left some residential and industrial areas submerged for the past few days.

Continuous rainfall caused the Mungeshpur drain to overflow and breach at multiple locations, resulting in waterlogging in localities such as Chhotu Ram Nagar and Vivekanand Nagar. The adjoining industrial zone has also been badly affected, including the Maruti stockyard, where many vehicles remain submerged.

With support from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), an engineering team from the Hisar Army Cantonment is actively engaged in the breach repair operation.

Army officials stated that they are assisting the district administration in repairing the damaged embankment on a war footing. “The embankments will be completely reinforced to prevent further damage,” they said.

Jhajjar Deputy Commissioner Swapnil Ravindra Patil confirmed the Army’s critical role in reinforcing the breached drain. “The immediate threat of erosion has been brought under control. SDRF teams and other departments are working alongside the Army to ensure the long-term stability of the drain infrastructure,” he said.

In addition to the Mungeshpur drain, the Irrigation Department is also strengthening the embankments of Drain No. 8 to prevent future breaches.

“The administration is working tirelessly to resolve the waterlogging crisis, with continuous efforts from all departments. The state government has instructed that all possible measures be taken to ensure swift water drainage,” the DC added.

He acknowledged that certain residential areas in Bahadurgarh are still affected by water accumulation. “We are ensuring that no citizen should suffer during this time. Relief camps have been established and affected families are encouraged to avail the support and shelter provided,” he added.

Patil also urged residents to remain calm, assuring them that the government and administration are with them. The district administration has issued emergency helpline numbers. “In case of any emergency, immediately contact the district administration control room at 01251-254270 or the Irrigation Department’s flood control room at 01251-481707. People are advised not to pay attention to rumours and rely only on official information from the administration,” he added.
