As residents of Rohtak city continue to walk and drive on broken, damaged and potholed roads for months, Deputy Commissioner Sachin Gupta has directed officials of road-construction departments to issue certificates for those roads in the city that are pothole-free.

Reviewing the condition of city roads with PWD officials at a recently held meeting, Gupta directed them to carry out an exercise of issuing certificates for pothole-free roads.

He also reviewed the repair and maintenance of roads under the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA), and instructed it to submit pothole-free certificates as well.

“Residents have been facing grave inconvenience due to the badly broken and potholed roads for a long time, but the officials concerned remain indifferent to their suffering. Instead of issuing certificates of pothole-free roads sitting in their offices, officials should physically inspect roads and get the damaged ones repaired promptly. Such orders and official paperwork must be backed by concrete action,” said Prem Malik, an area resident.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner, along with Municipal Commissioner Anand Sharma, reviewed works being carried out by the municipal corporation.

He instructed officials to ensure that, in view of the festive season, lights are put up at main markets and chowks.

He also reviewed the repair work of streetlights along various city roads.

In the meeting, it was discussed that the municipal corporation had issued a tender for the repair of all streetlights, and in view of Diwali, the work of installing lights in all major markets and chowks of the city would commence soon. Gupta said possibilities should be explored to replace iron grills along PWD roads with plantations. He reviewed drinking water supply and sewerage arrangements with the Superintending Engineer and the Executive Engineers of the Public Health Department.

As per an official statement, the department has prepared a project to ensure adequate water supply in Old Rohtak, including Salara Mohalla and other colonies. He instructed the officials concerned to ensure that the sewer line in front of Baba Mastnath University and Hafed Chowk is repaired and manhole covers are installed.

Reviewing the progress of the ‘Mhara Gaon, Jagmag Gaon’ scheme with officials of the Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN), the Deputy Commissioner instructed them to provide a list of villages already declared ‘Jagmag’ and to complete the process of declaring Bhainsru Kalan village as a ‘Jagmag Village’, as announced during a night-stay programme on September 26.
