A panel of doctors on Thursday conducted a post-mortem examination of Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Sandeep Kumar Lather of Haryana Police at the PGIMS in Rohtak. The entire procedure was videographed. The body was taken to Sandeep’s native Julana town in a flower-adorned vehicle. To ensure law and order, a sufficient number of police personnel were deployed outside the postmortem house.

Sandeep’s body was brought to the postmortem house late on Wednesday night, after his family permitted the police to take possession of the body, following the registration of a FIR in connection with the suicide case.

It is noteworthy that in his suicide note and video, Sandeep made serious allegations against the late senior IPS officer Y Puran Kumar, his family, and subordinates. The family withheld the body at Ladhaut village here for approximately 24 hours. The family was demanding registration of FIR against all those named in the suicide note and video before handing the body over to the police.

Sandeep shot himself with his service pistol in a room located in a field on the outskirts of Ladhaut on Tuesday afternoon. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini visited the bereaved family on Wednesday and assured the family of justice.

Hours after his visit, an FIR was registered, based on a complaint filed by Sandeep’s wife Santosh Devi. However, the police have kept the FIR confidential. In addition to Saini, several prominent leaders, including former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda, INLD national president Abhay Singh Chautala and others visited the family to offer condolences.

Initially, the postmortem was scheduled to be conducted at the PGIMS at 8 am, but it was delayed due to some procedural formalities involving family members.

Speaking on the occasion, Sandeep’s relative Satyavan expressed that the family was satisfied with the ongoing action. He also mentioned that the decision to hand over the body was made unanimously by the family after a meeting officials on Wednesday night. "The last rites will be performed in Sandeep's native place at Julana (Jind)," he added.

Sanjay, Sandeep’s cousin, stated that the FIR was registered based on the suicide note and video. “We have full faith in the administration, which has assured us that the investigation would be conducted according to the suicide note and video. We have seen and read the FIR, but we do not have a copy of it. We have no additional demand,” he added.
