Constant efforts put in by the district administration seem to have borne fruit as the long-pending project of expanding the Karnal Aviation Club has got wings. The district administration has consolidated the remaining required land, which was left after a majority of farmers sold their land for the ambitious project of Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.

The district administration consolidated the required 26 acres, 7 kanals and 12 marlas on Wednesday and took its possession. The remaining required land falls at the point where the airstrip will be expanded.
As per the authorities, it was the first case in the state, wherein the authorities had consolidated the left out pockets of land after a majority of the farmers had given their consent to sell their land as per the government policy.
“We were able to consolidate the remaining required land for the project by invoking the provisions of the Haryana Consolidation of Project Land (special provisions) Act 2017 as a majority farmers have already sold their land for this project. It is the first case in the state wherein the provisions of the Act were adopted. We have disbursed adequate compensation to the remaining farmers,” said Anish Yadav, Deputy Commissioner.
“It is the result of the efforts put in by Karnal SDM Anubhav Mehta,” said the DC.
After the expansion, the runway will be extended to 5,000 ft from 3,000 ft, providing the facility of landing small and medium aircraft here.
The DC said for the expansion of the project 171 acres, 7 kanals and 7 marlas was required. The government already owns 106 acres, 6 kanals and 14 marlas and the department requires additional around 65 acres and13 marlas.
The government had purchased 36 acres, 6 kanals and 11 marlas from the willing farmers of Kulvehri village who had given their consent on the e-bhoomi portal and later around 1 acre and 5 kanals was also purchased by the government. Now, the remaining has been consolidated, he added.
Anubhav Mehta, SDM, said the possession of land had been taken and transferred on the name of the Civil Aviation Department. The further process would be carried out by the department.
A detailed project report (DPR) will be prepared by the department. No construction will be allowed within 20-km radius of the airport as per the norms of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, sources said. The residents said after the expansion of the aviation club, the tourism will also flourish.
Col Manbeer Choudhary (retd), president, Hotel and Restaurant Association of Haryana (HRAH), said the expansion of the aviation club would boost tourism and hospitality sector, but will give flip to the economic activities in the region.
