State minister and Barwala MLA Ranbir Gangwa met the family members of a murder victim, Sonu of Bugana village in the district, on Saturday. The deceased’s kin were sitting on a dharna at the Baddo Patti toll plaza on the Hisar-Chandigarh highway.

The family members and other villagers staged a protest, stating that the police had failed to arrest the accused, who had killed him on October 17.

His kin have been sitting on an indefinite dharna and also refused to accept the body, stating that they would cremate the body only after the arrest of the accused.

The minister, while condemning the incident, said the police had been directed to take swift action in the matter. He said he had urged the family members to cremate the body.

The crime took place on October 17 when a group of assailants shot Sonu while he was Sonu was sitting at his shop in the village. The police have registered a case against Maidku, Maat, Amit and his namesake Amit, Ajay, Lavish, Rakesh and two other unidentified persons under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The police spokesperson said several teams had been constituted to arrest the accused.
