Haryana Vidhan Sabha Speaker Harvinder Kalyan has said visually impaired persons are becoming a true source of inspiration for society by setting goals and achieving success in different fields despite limited resources. For them, physical challenges hold no barrier and as a public representative his responsibility lies towards the visually impaired community, he added.

Addressing the 8th Foundation Day of the Cricket Association for the Blind in Haryana as chief guest at Panchayat Bhawan on Sunday, Kalyan said he was today short of words to express his emotions. Visual impairment may not always be by birth, but can also be caused by circumstances of life, he said, while underlining the need for sensitivity and support towards the visually impaired.

Kalyan said the association had organised a programme in Karnal after 14 years. He assured the members of his full support. He maintained that the government has launched several welfare schemes for the differently abled, through which many eligible persons are already benefiting. “By showcasing their talent at national and international levels, the differently abled have brought glory to the state and country. I will also put forward their demands before the government as their advocate,” he said.

Kalyan also urged the association to organise future tournaments in Karnal, assuring all possible assistance. Association president Ajit Singh Patwa and general secretary Krishan Kumar Malik agreed to the proposal.

On the occasion, the Speaker felicitated players. Association general secretary Krishan Kumar Malik submitted a memorandum to the Speaker, demanding that in examinations conducted by HSSC or HPSC, visually impaired candidates should be provided writers of one grade lower. He also demanded clearing backlog of jobs, implementing 1% promotion quota under the 2016 Act, mandatory PGI medical checks for extending service tenure be withdrawn, pending salaries of master trainers in district.
