Singh, who retired from the Electricity Department in 2012, has previously applied three times for the Presidential election -- in 2012, 2017 and 2022, but his applications were rejected on each occasion and he could not contest.
He has again joined the poll fray this time as an aspirant for the VP’s post. Singh (71) served in the Electricity Department for 36 years and retired as Upper Division Clerk in 2012.
His son Sangram Singh said that his father had submitted the nomination papers, but did not have an update whether those were accepted or not during the scrutiny. “Since he could not get the backing of requisite lawmakers, it is bound to be rejected. The same had happened on earlier occasions as well,” he said, adding that his father approached the MPs for support but could not get any support.
