BJP, Congress leaders in war of words over farmers’ stir

The Congress and the BJP leaders are engaged in a war of words over the farmers’ agitation and other related issues. A day after former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda decried the BJP government for not letting farmers go to Delhi, saffron party state spokesman and former minister Krishan Murti Hooda launched a scathing attack on him.

“Hooda is shedding crocodile tears by making statements in favour of protesting farmers. He should tell what the Congress did for the welfare of farmers when it was in power in the state for around a decade. Why did the Congress government not implement the Swaminathan Committee’s recommendations if it is the well-wisher of farmers,” said Krishan Murti here on Monday.

The BJP spokesman said it was the Congress government which acquired the costly land of farmers at nominal rates and sold it to corporate houses at much higher prices while the BJP government had not acquired land of any farmer in the past decade.

“The Congress worked to render farmers landless and push them on the path of devastation. Now, Congress leaders are trying to gain sympathy of farmers with an intention to gain political mileage, but they will not succeed. The Congress would not have faced debacle for the third time in Haryana Assembly polls had it worked for the betterment of farmers,” Krishan Murti claimed.

The BJP spokesman also suggested Hooda to take retirement from politics while stating that the Congress had been rejected by the people in the Haryana Assembly polls for the third time.

On Sunday, former CM Bhupinder Hooda while addressing a news conference here had accused the BJP government of suppressing the voice of farmers while stating that preventing farmers from going to Delhi was anti-democratic.

Hooda had also pointed out that in a democracy, everyone had the right to go anywhere peacefully or to express their views, but the BJP government wanted to snatch this right from farmers.

Moreover, he had accused the BJP government of not providing the Diammonium phosphate (DAP) to farmers at the time of sowing, urea at the time of irrigation and minimum support price of the crop (MSP) at the time of harvest.
