A day after Union Home Minister Amit Shah accused the Congress of depriving other backward classes (OBCs) of reservation, former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today said it was the BJP that had curbed reservation, welfare schemes for Dalits and backward classes ever since it came to power in the state.

“The BJP reduced the creamy layer limit from Rs 8 lakh to Rs 6 lakh to end the reservation of backward classes. Income from agriculture and salary were also added to it (creamy layer). As a result, lakhs of people from backward classes were deprived of reservation, and thousands of youth could not get government jobs and admission to government educational institutions. The Congress raised this issue in the Assembly, but the government did not listen,” he said. “The government should seek an apology from the backward classes, not their vote, ” Hooda said.
