BJP: Ex-servicemen to spread awareness about Agnipath scheme

Violent protests against Agnipath scheme has forced the state BJP to rope in former soldiers to create awareness about the recruitment scheme.

State BJP president OP Dhankar today convened a review meeting at the party’s Gurukamal office to discuss the recent violence in the state.

Claiming that the youth were being misled by social media and rumour mongers on the scheme, Dhankar announced a major online and offline campaign to reach out to the youths and clarify their doubts. The party feels former soldiers will be best suited for the job.

“Hearing it from the horse’s mouth will clear all rumours. These soldiers have been an inspiration to the youths. Ex-servicemen will go door to door and explain the scheme with an impartial and unbiased motive,” Dhankar said.

Rajya Sabha MP and Lt Gen (retd) DP Vats said the scheme was a revolutionary scheme and would take the Indian armed forces miles ahead.

“We have to match international defence standards and having a young force is one of key requirements. Short Commission officers are on the post of DC in state. What other assurance do the youths want of the future?” he said.
