BJP govt biased towards Rohtak, says ex- minister

Former Haryana Home Minister and senior Congress leader Subhash Batra has alleged that the BJP government in Haryana was biased towards Rohtak.

Addressing a news conference on Wednesday, Batra said the residents of Rohtak were facing lack of clean and adequate drinking water, gross insanitation, broken roads and rampant corruption at the local tehsil and the municipal corporation.

"Rohtak is being discriminated against as it is the home district of two-time Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and is represented by Congress MP and MLAs in the Lok Sabha and all Assembly constituencies," stated the former Home Minister.

The Congress leader demanded a thorough probe into the Rs 350-crore AMRUT scam, which was also flagged by Haryana Minister for Cooperation, Jails, Elections, Heritage and Tourism Dr Arvind Sharma.

In response to a query, Batra remarked that Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini is a decent and well-meaning person, but he should come out of the shadow of the BJP's previous regime in Haryana.

Responding to allegations of senior BJP leader and former Haryana minister Manish Grover that no developmental works had been carried out by Congress MP from Rohtak Deepender Singh Hooda, the former Home Minister maintained that development works worth Rs 2.14 crore had been sanctioned under the MP Local Area Development Scheme in the current year itself.

He also furnished a list of the development works sanctioned under the scheme.

"While the Congress was in power, the Opposition leaders, including Grover, used to state that a major chunk of funds was being spent on development of Rohtak. Now, they ask us what have we done for Rohtak," quipped Batra.

He challenged Grover to have a public debate or address a joint press conference on different issues pertaining to Rohtak.
