BJP’s Rajya Sabha MP Ram Chander Jangra has raised a controversy by saying that the women who were present during the Pahalgam terror attack lacked the determination to fight back, so they lost their husbands to terrorists.

Speaking at a district seminar in Bhiwani on the 300th birth anniversary of Ahilya Bai Holkar, Jangra said, “Aur agar vahan par jo hamari viranganayen bahene thi, jinki maang ka sindoor chheen liya gaya, unhone Ahilya Bai ka itihas padha hota to unke saamne koi unke pati ko goli nahin mar sakta tha, chahe vo bhi shaheed ho jati. Josh nahin tha, jajba nahin tha. (If the women present there, whose husbands were killed, had read the history of Ahilya Bai, no one could have shot their husbands in front of them.)

The attack occurred on April 22 in the Baisaran Valley near Pahalgam.

Jangra had earlier also made controversial comments on the farmers’ protest, which he had later retracted.

BJP MP says his remarks were distorted, expresses regret
Jangra on Sunday claimed his remarks on the Pahalgam terror victims were "distorted" for political motives and he had no intention of insulting anyone, as the opposition parties demanded his sacking.
"I do not treat women of my country weak in any manner...  We stand with the women who lost their husbands in the Pahalgam attack, we stand with those families... Still, if I have hurt anyone's feelings, I have no hesitation in apologising," he said in a video message. —with PTI
