Defence Minister Rajnath Singh today said the BJP-led government is preparing to introduce a Bill on ‘one nation, one election’ in Parliament, aimed at holding the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections simultaneously across the country. Singh made the announcement while addressing a rally in Bilaspur town, organised by Balwant Singh, BJP’s candidate from the Sadhaura Assembly constituency of Yamunanagar district.

Singh emphasised that the implementation of simultaneous elections would save both time and resources. “The country recently held Lok Sabha elections, and now, just four months later, Haryana is holding its Assembly elections. It would have been better if both elections were held together,” Singh said.

He explained that the frequent election cycles keep the administrative machinery constantly occupied. “The entire administrative system remains busy with elections, leaving officers unable to focus on the welfare of the people as much as they should,” he added.

Reaffirming the BJP’s commitment to the ‘one nation one election’ policy, Singh said, “To fulfil this commitment, Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government has decided to table a Bill in Parliament. We do not hesitate to do whatever is in the best interest of the country.”
