Gurugram, June 15

A major accident was averted today when the driver of a Haryana Roadways bus rammed the vehicle into a unipole to bring it to a halt after brake failure.

Only one passenger, identified as Jogeram, sustained critical injuries and was taken to a private. The bus was badly damaged.

The incident took place around 5 pm when a Haryana Roadways bus left for Faridabad from Gurugram. When the bus reached near Kalyani hospital, Sector 14, driver Harbir realised that the brakes were not working. He did not get panic and asked all passengers to shift to rear seats and hold on rails tightly.

When the bus crossed the Bata chowk flyover, its speed increased. To stop the vehicle, Harbir rammed it into a unipole on a divider near Sukhrali village. As the bus stopped immediately, a biker and an auto-rickshaw collided into it. However, they escaped with minor injuries.

“Only Jogeram sustained injuries. Driver Harbir’s efforts averted a major mishap. We are investigating the matter,” said ASI Munshi Ram.
