Sirsa, October 25

A bridge guard, Om Prakash, saved a woman and her five-year-old child from a suicide attempt at the Chaudhary Devi Lal Ottuwear Bridge in Sirsa district on Thursday. The woman, identified as Praveen Kaur, had reportedly come to the bridge from Sirsa's Nekiram Gurjar Gali with her child, intending to end her life due to personal distress.

Om Prakash, the head in-charge at Ottuwear, noticed her unusual behavior as she wandered around the bridge and grew suspicious. Just as Praveen attempted to jump into the canal with her child, he intervened, and averted the tragedy. Assisted by colleagues Gurmeet Singh, Vipin Kumar, Satbir Singh, and Kulwant Singh, Om Prakash managed to bring the woman and her child to safety and later informed the police.

During initial questioning, Praveen revealed that she and her husband worked at a local bakery in Sirsa, where they had been accused of stealing Rs 3 lakh by their employer. Unable to bear the accusation and the resulting despair, Praveen had decided to end her life.

After a preliminary investigation, the police escorted her to the Rania Police Station in a bid to ensure resolution in the case. The authorities are investigating the matter.

Om Prakash, who has previously received recognition from the district administration for saving lives, once again demonstrated his commitment to public safety.
