Enraged over the killing of BSP leader Harbilas Singh Rajjumajra, his supporters and people from all walks of life blocked the road at Agarsen Chowk in Naraingarh and demanded action against the accused.

Rajjumajra had succumbed to bullet injuries last night, while his friend Puneet Dang, who also suffered a bullet injury, was stated to be out of danger.

The cremation was held at his native Rajju Majra village.

The name of criminal Vainkat Garg has reportedly cropped up in the killing, and a land and monetary dispute are suspected to be the reason behind the incident.

Leaders from various parties, including the BSP and INLD; farmer unions, including BKU (Charuni) and BKU (Shaheed Bhagat Singh); and various social organisations participated in the dharna.

Gurjant Singh, a protester, said criminals had no fear of the government and police. Just before the Republic Day celebrations, when the security remained tight, criminals had dared to openly shoot a person who enjoyed a good reputation in the constituency, he said.

The protesters said Naraingarh was the home constituency of CM Nayab Saini and the police should set an example for the criminals by taking strict action. They also demanded police protection for Rajjumajra's family.

Naraingarh DSP Suraj Chawla and Ambala Cantt DSP Rajat Gulia reached the spot and tried to pacify the protesters.

The Naraingarh DSP said a case had been registered against eight people by name on the basis of the complaint by the victim's family. Teams of CIA and STF were working on the case and had gone to Uttar Pradesh as well.

The dharna was lifted after Ambala SP Surinder Singh Bhoria said strict action would be taken against the accused. The police have also announced a reward of Rs 2 lakh for giving information about the accused.

Vainkat Garg was a history sheeter and presently out on bail, he said.
