The residents claimed through numerous complaints, they have raised the issue with Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB), Haryana Shahri Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) and Municipal Corporation, but their pleas have gone unheeded.

The Mela Ground — spread over approximately 5 acres to the west of Sector 21P and east of the new vegetable market — is a low-lying area.

The residents alleged that the district authorities have turned a blind eye to the problems related to civic amenities and cleanliness in the locality. The site is barely 50 metres from the Sector 21P boundary wall, they added.

The residents are now facing various health-related issues due to the dirt and pollution emanating from the site. The accumulated garbage, along with the stench and toxic fumes from burning waste, has caused respiratory illnesses among the residents living nearby.

Vinay Mohan, a resident, said they had lodged a complaint with the Haryana State Pollution Control Board and Municipal Corporation over the persistent burning of waste in the area, which is causing severe air pollution and health hazards.

In a complaint, Mohan said the daily burning of waste from vegetable market near Sector 21P, Mela Ground, had been producing unbearable smoke and toxic fumes, which was affecting the quality of life and posing serious respiratory risks to the residents.

The residents have demanded immediate action to check the waste burning practice and proper waste management measures, besides regular inspections to prevent such incidents.

Mohan said ironically, while the state government has launched a special drive by mobilising all resources in the name of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, officials of the departments concerned have failed to take note of the complaints related improper garbage disposal near the posh locality.
