With the campaigning at its peak, the candidates of the BJP and the Congress are leaving no stone unturned to woo voters and improve their positions in the mayoral byelection of the Ambala Municipal Corporation election.

While the BJP is seeking votes in the name of work done and ensuring smooth development, the Congress is raising the issues of Family ID, sanitation, corruption and property ID in Ambala City.

From poaching supporters of opposition parties to holding meetings with the leaders of religious, social, and residents associations, the candidates are making all efforts to strengthen their base.

While for BJP Shailja Sachdeva is in field, Congress has fielded Amisha Chawla as its candidate for the election.

Congress candidate Amisha Chawla said “In the last Assembly election, the Congress had won the Ambala City segment and I am confident that the people of Ambala will continue to support the Congress. The BJP has not done anything for the welfare of the people of Ambala City and all works came to a standstill after the Assembly election. People have seen the mismanagement, how they are forced to make rounds of the offices to get work done and they will teach another lesson to the BJP in the civic body election.”

“I am focusing on door-to-door canvassing as it gives one a better opportunity to interact with the people and understand their issues. People also want to interact with their candidates and understand their plans”, she added.

To a query, Amisha said “Though we don’t have any organisational structure, the party leaders and workers have been working hard and with unity to ensure party’s victory. All the Congressmen have been holding programmes in their respective wards.”

Meanwhile from booth-level meetings to holding corner and public meetings, the BJP has been going full throttle to ensure party’s victory in the election.

BJP leader Sandeep Sachdeva said, “We are getting tremendous support from all sections of society and people from different parties, including the Congress and the JJP have been joining us daily. We have been appealing to the people of Ambala to vote for the BJP to ensure a smooth development of Ambala City. Various projects are lying pending and waterlogging is a serious issue. We will ensure that all projects are completed on time.”

“There is a BJP government atthe Centre and the state, and the Mayor of the same government will definitely help in developing a better coordination between the corporation and the government. The hype created during the Assembly election in the favour of the Congress was the only reason that the Congress won here, but now, people have understood that they should elect the BJP candidate and we are confident that the BJP will win the election with a big margin”, he added.
