Campus notes: State-level science quiz
Dyal Singh College, under the aegis of the Haryana State Council for Science, Innovation and Technology, Panchkula, organised a state-level science quiz for college students on Wednesday. The competition witnessed the enthusiastic participation of 12 teams that had earlier qualified in the zonal-level science quiz contest, organised across four zones in the state. A total of 35 students from various districts of the state showcased their talent and passion for science through the event. Following the oral quiz round, the top three teams were declared winners. Sanjana, Rinku and Isha of MNS Government College, Bhiwani, bagged a Rs 1 lakh cash prize; Vanshika, Sakshi and Yograj of MLN College, Yamunanagar, claimed the second position, winning Rs 80,000; and Sweety, Pankaj and Lalit of SMRJ Government College, Siwani, got a cash prize of Rs 60,000. Principal Dr Ashima Gakhar appreciated the participants for their efforts, and emphasised the role of such events in shaping students’ overall development. ADC Yash Jaluka, as the chief guest at the event, praised participants for their dedication to scientific learning. Dr Rahul Taneja, scientist, Patent Information Centre, Department of Science and Technology, delivered a talk on the history and objectives of the quiz competition. At the end of the event, Dr Kapil Gulati, convener, delivered a vote of thanks.
Rang-Bahar flower festival
Rohtak: Rang Mahotsav-2025 commenced recently at Maharshi Dayanand University with the flower festival Rang-Bahar. The flower show saw competitive events such as flower arrangement, floral jewellery-making, rangoli, photography, reel-making and selfie contests. Maj Gen Jagdeep Singh Cheema, ADC, NCC directorate (Haryana, Punjab, Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh), as the chief guest at the inaugural session of the flower festival, gave a clarion call to nurture nature and preserve the environment. He praised the efforts of the MDU administration to promote environmental causes through the festival. He said the youth must come forward for nation-building, and be disciplined, good citizens. Vice-Chancellor Rajbir Singh, in his address, said Rang Mahotsav was an endeavour to provide students with an environment where they could hone their skills. Singh said the event was a platform for learning beyond classrooms. Registrar Dr Krishan Kant, as the guest of honour, said the floral festival was a celebration of nature, flowers, creative arts and youthful energy. Flowers gave us valuable lessons of life, he added.
On-the-spot painting competition
Yamunanagar: Seth Jai Parkash Polytechnic, Damla, recently organised an ‘on-the-spot painting competition’ on the theme “How I See My Future?” The event witnessed the enthusiastic participation of more than 60 students, who showcased their creativity and vision through innovative paintings. Participants expressed their aspirations, career goals and futuristic ideas, while some also highlighted pressing societal issues and proposed solutions through their artwork. The event was coordinated by Vipin Kumar. Amandeep Singh, Rohit Mandhar, Amit Kumar, Monika Ganesh and Anjali were among those present at the event. Principal Anil Kumar lauded the students for their thought-provoking artwork, and emphasised the importance of creative expression in shaping a progressive society. He encouraged students to pursue their dreams with determination and contribute positively to the future.
International Day of Happiness
Rohtak: Faculty members, research scholars and students of Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) got to know about the fine points of the expressive art of cartooning at a workshop titled “Building happiness: Sukh Srijan” organised by the department of psychology and Happitude Laboratory of the university to mark the International Day of Happiness on Thursday. Cartoonist Sandeep Joshi, who was invited as the resource-person at the workshop, elucidated the art of cultivating happiness through cartooning. “We should relish each and every happy moment of life and always try to express ourselves creatively,” remarked Joshi during his lecture-cum-demonstration on cartooning.
