Capt Yadav seeks HC-monitored probe into IPS officer’s suicide

Senior Congress leader and former minister Capt Ajay Singh Yadav has demanded a high court-monitored inquiry into the suicide case of senior IPS officer Y Puran Kumar, calling it a “grim reminder of systemic rot” within the state’s administrative framework.

Yadav also urged the government to accept the demands of the deceased officer’s family and take strict action to curb atrocities against Dalits.

“The suicide of a senior Dalit IPS officer has exposed serious cracks in the state’s administrative framework. If the government fails to deliver justice in such a high-profile case, it sets a dangerous precedent for ordinary citizens and honest officers,” said Yadav while speaking to the media here today.

Calling the incident “deeply disturbing,” Yadav said it had shaken not just the state but raised troubling questions about the integrity of governance and the safety of honest officers across the country.

He pointed out that Puran Kumar had reportedly mentioned caste-based discrimination and mental harassment in his suicide note.

“This is not just an issue of personal distress, but a broader attack on the dignity and existence of the Dalit community, which continues to face systemic injustice and exclusion,” he added.

Responding to a media query, Yadav said the handling of the case called for serious introspection by both the state and Central governments.

“It is deeply unfortunate that the deceased officer’s family was unwilling to allow a post-mortem examination, yet the body was forcibly shifted to PGIMER on Saturday. Moreover, the FIR did not include the specific legal sections the family had asked for, which clearly indicates an attempt to suppress the truth and influence the investigation,” he claimed.

Taking a broader view of the current national atmosphere, Yadav also referred to the recent incident in which a shoe was thrown at the Chief Justice of India, calling it a sign of eroding public faith in institutions.

“If the country’s top judicial authority is not safe inside a courtroom and a senior IPS officer is driven to suicide due to government pressure, then what hope is left for the common man?” he asked.
