The CBI has taken over the probe into the mysterious death of 19-year-old schoolteacher Manisha in Bhiwani district after her family and locals expressed dissatisfaction with the Haryana Police’s investigation.

The CBI registered a case of murder and wrongful confinement in the matter. Sources said the central agency initiated its investigation on September 3, formally filing the FIR on September 5.

A CBI team has since been camping in Bhiwani, collecting records, questioning individuals and visiting the site where Manisha’s body was found on August 13 near a canal in Singhani village.

Officials also visited the playschool in Singhani where Manisha was employed. She worked as a teacher at Kids’ Care Bal Vidyalaya. “The CBI team questioned the school operator, sought details of all teachers and staff and scanned records and documents to understand her work and routine,” sources said.

The agency has already taken over all case-related documents from Bhiwani police and held discussions with local officers.

Initially, police registered a murder case after Manisha’s death but later began probing a suicide angle. Her family, however, rejected this claim, insisting that she was murdered. Following their demand, the state government handed over the case to the CBI.

Confirming the development, Bhiwani SP Sumit Kumar said, “The matter is being investigated by the CBI.”
