The Gurugram traffic police, in the last 18 days, have issued 89 challans amounting to Rs 8.90 lakh over the use of modified silencers and pressure horns.

Earlier the police had issued 515 challans totalling Rs 51.50 lakh between January and August. ‘Silencer blast’, technically an offence called ‘silencer making noise’ under the Central Motor Vehicle Rules and the Motor Vehicles Act, is usually performed by switching the engine off and suddenly on again when the motorcycle is at a high speed to produce a sound like that of a firecracker.

DCP (Traffic) Rajesh Mohan said a special campaign was launched bwteen September 1 and 19 to curb these violations.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.
