The police said fed up with the taunts of people, the accused killed the 25-year-old former state-level player to save his "honour". On July 10, in a fit of rage, he fired multiple shots at her with his licensed gun, four of which hit her, killing her on the spot.

The crime took place at their home in Sector 57 area of Gurugram, when she was cooking food. During preliminary investigation, Deepak confessed that he shot his daughter because villagers used to taunt him that he was living off her earnings.

Radhika was a promising tennis player, but after sustaining a shoulder injury during a game, she started training young players by renting a court at an academy near her home.

Deepak had asked her to stop coaching, but she did not listen to him.

After an investigation that lasted three months, the police filed an over 400-page chargesheet in the district court on Wednesday. Deepak had repeatedly forbidden Radhika from going out of the house and coaching, said a senior investigator.

According to police sources, the chargesheet also mentions that there were several quarrels between Radhika and her father before the murder. It was clarified that the reason for the murder was related to "honour", and not any marriage or affair.
