Chemistry dept at MDU gets research grant

Rs 1.9 crore has been given to augment research facilities

The department of chemistry at Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) has been awarded the prestigious DST- FIST (fund for improvement of science & technology) research grant by the Union Ministry of Science and Technology.

Prof Devender Singh, head, department of chemistry, said the department had received an official letter from the R&D Infrastructure Division of the Ministry of Science & Technology (Government of India) communication award of grant of Rs 1.9 crore to augment research facilities in the department.

“The research grant valid for five years will be utilised for upgrading of scientific software and purchase of scientific equipment, including electrochemical workstation nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectrometer and UV spectrometer etc. The upgrading will facilitate and improve the research ecosystem in the department,” he added.

MDU Vice-Chancellor Prof Rajbir Singh and other senior university functionaries have congratulated the HoD and his team for the achievement.
