Chief Secretary to head Transgender Welfare Board

The Haryana Government has notified the Transgender Welfare Board under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary.

The other members of the board, constituted under the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Rules, 2020, included Additional Chief Secretaries/Principal Secretaries of the departments of Home, Finance, Planning, Social Justice, Empowerment, Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes and Antyodaya (SEWA), Education Department, Skill Development, Labour, and Women and Child Welfare. The Additional Chief Secretary/ Principal Secretary of the department handling the matter of transgender persons will be the member-secretary, while any other government/public representative approved by the chairperson will be member-invitee.

The functions of the board include monitoring implementation of the 2020 rules, ensuring welfare of transgender persons in government schemes, ensuring accessibility of health, housing, education, skilling, legal and other necessary services, and non-discrimination of transgender persons at home, workplace, and public places.

Meanwhile, the member-secretary will ensure yearly meeting of the board, issuance and keeping record of the minutes and timely forwarding the decisions taken at the meeting to the Secretary, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
