The case was brought to light when the trader, Sukhbir Singh, filed a complaint with the Vigilance Department. The court, under District and Sessions Judge Vani Gopal Sharma, convicted Kumar based on the evidence provided by the prosecution.

Kumar, who is currently serving as head of the anti-vehicle theft team in Sirsa, will be sentenced on November 19.

According to the prosecution, Kumar had threatened Sukhbir that his father would face legal consequences if he (Kumar) did not shield him. In exchange for this, Kumar demanded Rs 2 lakh. Despite Sukhbir initially withdrawing his statement in court, the prosecution managed to present a strong case based on evidence.

The Vigilance team, led by DSP Kailash Chand, took action on July 5, 2021, after Sukhbir reported the bribery demand. A trap was set at the Sirsa grain market, where Kumar was to collect the money. Sukhbir handed over the marked currency notes to Kumar, and upon receiving a signal from Sukhbir, the Vigilance team arrested Kumar.
