Addressing the gathering, former Ambala City MLA Aseem Goel said under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, India’s global standing has improved and the country is progressing towards becoming a world leader. “To commemorate the Prime Minister’s birthday, the Sewa Pakhwada programme has been launched today, during which several events — including medical camps, Swachhta Abhiyan and the Namo Marathon — will be held from September 17 to October 2,” Goel said.

He added while the government initiates and organises various programmes, public participation is vital for the success of any campaign. “As part of the Swachhta campaign, Ambala City will be made poster-free. The Ambala Municipal Corporation will take steps and raise awareness in this direction. A ‘no-polythene’ campaign has also been launched, under which citizens will be encouraged to use cloth bags instead of polythene to make Ambala City polythene-free,” he said.

As per the announcements made, the Municipal Corporation would install vending machines to dispense cloth bags at affordable prices and would identify suitable locations for their installation.
